I had just graduated, and my two friends Ilysa, Taylor and I had planned a summer trip to my family's estate in Jonesport, Maine, a trip we had planned all year long.

The beautiful two-story Victorian mansion was built on the Jonesport bluffs overlooking the sea. I will always cherish the time I spent with my grandmother, listening to the family  stories of times long past.

Then one dreadful, cool autumn night, both my grandparents disappeared without a trace, and up until this time I had not returned.

On the night we arrived, the stormy sky was dark and ominous. While unloading the car, a streak of lightning flashed across the sky, revealing a stranger who was watching me. Within seconds of the next flash, he was gone.

From the moment I met Tegan, my sleepless nights began. I tossed and turned, hearing his seductive voice in my dreams.

My days were no better; as my friends and I explore the town, shopping, eating at outside cafes, and walking the beach, I'm constantly looking for him.

The nights are consistently getting worse. I sleep two, maybe three hours at the most. When I awaken, I taste his sweet lips on my mouth. I can smell his musky scent, and  feel his presence as if he is next to me.

Ilysa and Taylor are starting to wonder why he only comes around when the sun is down and leaves before dawn. Taylor is more suspicious than Ilysa; just today, she asked, "Why is his skin so pale? Why doesn't he eat or drink with us? Why doesn't he have friends?"

I felt bombarded with questions that I had no answers to, but I'm afraid to ask.

When I'm in Tegan's arms, I feel safe from the danger that stalks us. Yet, I'm worried for Ilysa and Taylor; did they make it to the car? Did they get out of Jonesport?

Tegan could sense my fear. With his hypnotic voice, he whispered, "My father said he would get them out, and he's a man of his word. Now rest, my love, for the sun is coming up."

The battle between the clans consumed my sleep; I could see their long, sharp teeth snarling and gnashing at one another. When their bodies collided, it sounded like crashing metal. Their growls were loud and vicious. Within the time it took for that dream to end, another one began.

I was laying in the grass; Tegan looked down at me, and  said, "Only one sip my love, and you will be my bloodmate; join my clan, and live with me forever.

Tegan and I awoke to a raging storm. Looking out the window, he said, "They're here!"
Running through the rain  for our lives, I wondered if this nightmare would ever end, and if so, would Tegan and I live to see the next rising moon?
